He made his western operatic debut at the Nice Opera in Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame and his Italian debut at La fenice, Venice, in Eugene Onegin. He rapidly rose to fame and is now one of the most sought-after singers in the world. He frequently appears at all the major opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; the Bavarian State Opera, Munich; the Berlin State Opera; the Teatro alla Scala, Milan; the Vienna State Opera; the Metropolitan Opera, New York; and the St Petersburg Opera. His most notable roles include Onegin in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Figaro in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the title role in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Posa in Verdi's Don Carlo and Francesco in I Masnadieri. Dmitri Hvorostovsky has also given many recitals in most major international venues including London, New York, Milan, Moscow, Hong Kong and Vienna. He has also given recitals in Seoul, Oslo, Istanbul, Jerusalem, South America, Australia and the Far East, working with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic. Dmitri Hvorostovsky has released numerous recordings for both Philips Classics and Delos Records, including opera recordings of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Verdi's La Traviata with Kiri Te Kanawa, Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana, Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride and Verdi's Don Carlo. He has also recorded recital and aria discs of Neapolitan songs, Russian Romances, Italian arias and Bel Canto arias as well as Russian sacred music. His future plans include I Masnadieriat the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Le Nozze di Figaro at the Bastille Opera, Paris, Il trovatore with the Washington Opera and Don Carlo at the Vienna State Opera. |
